Sable Knight The Grid roped me into Tigran's music, but the opening of "To Love" into "Song for Melan and Rafik" was the soundtrack to my morning for maybe half a year. Incredibly hard grooves, gorgeous vocals, and exposes a huge audience to the beauty of Armenian folk music. Favorite track: Song for Melan and Rafik.

drogoeisenschwein It's metal w/o sounding metal. It's dark and brutal, full of energy and unexpected twists and rhythms. It's joyful, full of love and stories. Chords and drums hit like a hammer, before they gently lift up to a golden harmony. Stunning. Favorite track: The Grid.

jyrki63 I first heard Tigran play when he was in Lars Danielsson's group. Already then he offered interesting material drawing from traditional Armenian music. Delighted to see him develop that during a solo career also.

Eric Gedenk Emotional and virtuosic rarely go in the same sentence with music, but Tigran's albums hit that mark every time.

about

Tigran Hamasyan's label debut, Mockroot, comprises new tracks written by Hamasyan, as well as his arrangements of traditional Armenian songs. Although trained as a classical and jazz musician, Hamasyan draws on a wide range of influences, including Armenian folk music, rock, electronica, poetry, and more. "There are many brilliant and perfectly finished young jazz pianists around," says the Telegraph, "but Hamasyan stands out because he has something important and urgent to say." "You will find it difficult if not impossible to get this disc out of your machine for quite a while," raves the Buffalo News. "Don’t count on getting it out of your head for a long while either."
